With temperatures in the high 80s and 90s lately the littles and I hit that mid-afternoon slump and water just doesn’t seem to cut it. For my birthday this year I received a Blendtec blender (Thanks again Family – you ROCK!) and it came w/a recipe book. One of the recipes included was for an “Orange Julius” smoothie.
Growing up we didn’t go the mall often, but on the rare occasion that I went w/friends or Girl Scouts I would always use my pocket money for one of those tall drinks of creamy orange goodness. Just another thing that I thought we’d given up forever when we went GFCFEF (Gluten/Casein/Egg Free).
Never fear! This smoothie to the rescue!
Orange Julious-Type Smoothie
1 C Milk (I used coconut milk, So Delicious Brand)
2 Medium Oranges, peeled
1 Small Yellow Squash (washed, cut off the ends & cubed, I left the skin on)
1 1/2 Cups Ice (I used closer to 2 cups)
6 oz Frozen OJ Concentrate
2 Tbspn Honey (I used 1.5, I’ll go down to 1 next time)
1 tspn Vanilla
Throw it all in the blender, whaz it up and enjoy!
